Chapter 8

Soft grunting made Providence open her eyes. Even though the thin blanket covered most of her body, she still shivered, needing more than this covering to warm her. She frowned and shifted to roll over, away from the white-painted, Besser brick wall. “Yes.” His eyes moved to the container, half the contents spilled; he reached forward picking it up, preventing further spillage.

“I did not want to involve you in this. I know how easily your skin shades. It is my shame, not yours.”
